語源

ラテン語の lectura (読むこと、朗読、講義) に由来する。動詞 legere (集める、選ぶ、読む) の過去分詞 lectus から派生。

元々は書物を「読むこと」や「朗読」。大学などで教師が学生に対して行う「講義、講演」。動詞は「講義する」。時に、長々とした「説教」や「説教する」という否定的な意味も持つ。
