語源

ラテン語の instructio (配列、建設、教育) が由来。
動詞 instruere (内部に積み上げる、建てる、準備する、教える) の過去分詞 instructus + -io。
in- (中に、上に) + struere (積む、建てる、配列する)。

元々は「（知識などを）内部に築き上げること」→「教育」「指導」。そこから、何をすべきかを具体的に示す「指示」「命令」や、製品の使い方を示す「取扱説明書」（通常複数形 instructions）。structure (構造) や construct (建設する) と関連がある。
