語源

ラテン語の destructio (取り壊し、破壊) が由来 (→ destroy 参照)。
destruct(us) (destruere の過去分詞) + -io (行為・状態)。

「建てたものを壊すこと」が原義。「破壊」という行為やその結果、「破滅」「絶滅」を意味する。
