語源

ラテン語の intercipere「途中で取る、横取りする」（過去分詞 interceptus）が由来である。
これは inter- (間に) + capere (取る) (過去分詞幹 cept-) に分解できる。

物が目的地に到達する「間に入って、それを取る」というイメージから、通信を「傍受する」、攻撃を「妨害する」、ボールなどを「途中で捕らえる」といった意味で使われる。
