語源

ラテン語の ignorare (知らない、気づかない、無視する) がフランス語を経て入ったものである (→ ignorant 参照)。
in- (否定) + (g)narus / (g)noscere。

元々は「知らない」という意味。そこから、意図的に存在や重要性を「知らないふりをする」→「無視する」という意味になった。
