語源

ラテン語の cornu 「角（つの）、先端、翼（軍の）」から派生した俗ラテン語 cornarium が古フランス語 corniere を経て入った言葉である。

部屋や建物の「角（かど）」「隅」、あるいは追い詰められた状況「窮地」を指す。
