語源

ラテン語の copula 「結びつき、絆、連結」（co- 「共に」 + apere 「結びつける」）から派生した古フランス語 couple が由来である。

二つのものが「結びついた」もの、「一対」「一組」、特に男女の「カップル」を指す。動詞としては、二つのものを「つなぐ」「連結する」。
